Company Response: For the public's knowledge, here is what happened: We were there for a tune-up on a 12 year old Amana Modulating Furnace. We utilize combustion analyzers to make sure systems are burning properly. At the time of the tune-up the furnace was showing high levels of CO in the exhaust, which is a sign the combustion is not proper most likely due to heat exchanger. The option was to replace the heat exchanger, or replace the unit. We supplied the customer with an estimate. They also had another company come out that was not able to find what we saw, and claimed everything was fine.
There was a possible chance our technician's meter was not reading correctly, however, this time our tech had multiple other visits that day and all readings were good. We are genuinely concerned that the company validating that the furnace is working does not understand how the modulating furnaces work and ramp through different profiles. Some stages may burn completely acceptable, while others may burn incorrectly, and we hope the other company took the time to check it at all profiles.
We wanted to send a second technician with another analyzer out at no charge to verify our findings, however, the customer has not returned any of our messages to try to prove our findings, and instead they do this and refuse to communicate.
In no way are we perfect, but when and if we make a mistake we want to make sure we see it through and make things right.
